How often should I lube the rail on my crossbow?
Answer: You should lube your rail approximately every 75-100 shots under normal conditions. Applying too much lube can cause excessive wear on your string's center serving and it will also cause your ACUdraw felt pad to fall off (if your crossbow is equipped with an ACUdraw unit). You should also lube your rail after you have gotten your crossbow wet - dry it thoroughly first, then re-apply a fresh coat of rail lube. After approximately one hour after application, the rail lube will dry to a thin glaze.
My question is - should I wait an hour to let the lube dry to a thin glaze before shooting my bow? I have been diligent about adding lube every 75-100 shots as instructed, but I have not been letting it dry before firing. Have I caused any problems to bow, trigger housing, accu-draw or bolts?

Location: Northeast Missouri | Can I use the rail lube on the string saver (Wicked Ridge Invader) ? A tiny plastic tube of what looked like oil came with the bow - which all leaked out overnight. How often should one lube the string saver ? |

Location: North Texas | Sheriff - I lubed my string saver when I first assembled my bow. I use the accu-draw to cock while practicing, and noticed a mild "popping" noise that seemed to come from the string saver while I cranked. I lubed the string saver again and the popping stopped. Based on that, I would say lube it as you feel necessary. I doubt you can hurt anything, but to be sure you might want to contact TenPoint. Jake Hout (10pt Tech) could tell you for sure. | Our you talking about the "string server" or "string saver". Because I do know you should not wax or grease the string server because it will gunk up the trigger mechanisms. Just questioning the terminology! I had a popping noise on my crossbow during cocking with my accu-draw and learned it was the cable saver under the barrel. Just lubed that and problem solved. |

| I just bought a Proslider and when I was sighting it in after a few shots it smelled like it was burning. I had lube on the rail too. My husband said "wow whats that burning smell"? I said my bow....... Whats up with that? |

| Ever tried good old turtle wax .its cheap will not deteiorate your serving.just put some on your finger tip apply a generous amount to your rail let it haze over and buff the rail. The excess that's in the rail channel just place the same cloth in the Chanel and buff it in as well .its slick. Just like your old man's pride & joy was back in the good old days . It will out last any rail lube on the market .and save that neat camo look we paid dearly for . |

Location: NC / VA | I'm still using the Microlon oil which came with my Phantom 5 yrs ago. Just a tiny drop on both rails, wipe it back and forth a couple times and it sheens up in a matter of seconds.
You can also use any quality gun oil or even 3in1 oil in a pinch. Just don't use a lot of it. If your rail feels greasy you're using too much. DO NOT use grease or heavy textured lubricants. They collect dust and mess up your serving.

| Will be shooting it this weekend and will polish the rail tonight
One thing I really like is the let off when cocked reduces the pressure on the string where it contacts the claw this will definitely improve serving life. |

I lube the rail, trigger and safety every 100 or so shots, and when I store it after the season. The lube is made for the bows and I feel safe using only it. |

I do the same as Larry - The micro pen came with my Phantom about 5 years ago. Still have 1/3 left. When it finally goes I will order another. Only takes a drop and with the pen you are very precise.
Having said that - I've assembled and made ready for raffle several other TenPoints and always use the lub which comes in disposable plastic kit. Works OK but messy and not for long term use. I've seen Barb and others say that any good gun oil or even 3 in 1 will do in a pinch. As mentioned already, a little is better then a lot. - This tread has been going awhile. I just scrolled up and see I said about the same thing several months ago. New foks coming to forum everyday so advice is still good - at least this is what works for me.

Location: North Texas | Gang - when I started this thread, my question was "should I let the micron dry to a thin glaze before shooting my bow? As it turned out the answer is "YES!". I had been lubing my rail and shooting it before letting dry to a hard glaze. This caused two problems for me. 1. It got into my string serving and frayed it prematurely. I haven't had it re-served, I figure I can get through the season the way it is. 2. It ruined the felt pad under my Accu Draw claw. I tried gluing it down a couple of times but that was futile. Finally, I met Barb at a trade show in Ft. Worth, and she gave me a Teflon replacement for the felt pad (snaps in place). So what I learned was to use Microlon SPARINGLY and let it dry to a hard glaze before shooting - takes an hour or so in front of a fan. I assume any other wax or lubricant would carry the same principle....Let It Dry! Can't say enough good things about Barb & other Ten Point staff - good people.
Oh yeah, and I LOVE my bow! |

Location: Houston | Glad I read this info. I've only shot my Titan HLX approx 20 times. I had used ten point rail lube and let it dry overnight but the string serve came unraveled. Took into Gander and they fixed the serve. The guy told me I should be putting rail lube every 10 shots... I told him the owner manual says every 100 shots. He said the book was wrong. I'd like to hear from you all please. |

Location: North Texas | I met with Ten Point Barb in person at a hunting show in Ft. Worth, and she assured me that I should shoot at least 75-100 shots before re-glazing my flight rail. Recommend Microlon (great stuff!). I had not only frayed my string serving from over-oiling, but also ruined the felt pad on my Accu Draw's claw. She gave me a nylon pad to replace the felt and told me to take it easy on the oil. Also, let your oil dry to a thin, hard glaze before using to prevent oil from soaking into your string serving, causing premature wear.

| I ran out of TenPoint Microlon. I bought a "tube" of Scorpion rail lube and used it. It works ok and is scent free. |
